OCEAN JUNK: REIMAGINED: AFU SHAAFIU

18 August - 15 September 2026

Created a decade ago, Ocean Junk emerged from a reflection on the traces we leave behind in

the ocean.

Fragments of human consumption, carried by currents and time, are transformed into imagined

marine beings; creatures that exist somewhere between reality and fiction, nature and human

intervention.

These imagined specimens speak of a future where the remains of our actions become part of the natural world. They ask us to look differently at what we discard, and to consider the lasting

relationship between the ocean, ourselves, and the marks we leave behind.

A decade later, Ocean Junk returns, not as a memory of the past, but as an evolving conversation with the present and the future.
