Through observed and imagined perspectives, in The Bird and the Flying Fish, Huda investigates the possibilities and boundaries of perception, and the emotive experience of colour. The paintings are worlds in transition where timelines clash and reconcile, and surfaces vibrate with unintentional power. The forms interrelate, the colours fuse (or resist,) and the compositions overlap. This presentation includes nine paintings made with oils, raw pigments, pastels, charcoal, graphite, thread, and Chinese ink.
The title of the exhibition underscores the importance Huda places on non-human perspectives. She imagines from a shifting viewpoint, including that of birds, fish, plants, and elements like water and air. The works invite viewers to pause, to notice and to feel - without urgency, without expectations or limitations.
The Bird and the Flying Fish was exhibited at the National Art Gallery (Maldives) in 2019, for just five days. It is for this reason that we make space and time for Huda’s The Bird and the Flying Fish once again.
